How to Access the Info Panel While Working on a Book
While working on a book, we will frequently want to see the metadata we added to a photo, the dates, the titles or captions, the keywords or places, or the pixel size or the filename. We will need this metadata to add captions to the book pages or to see the resolution of the photo to pick a photo place holder of the best size for the photo.
There is no simple way to open the Info panel however for photos added to a book. When we select the photo in the filmstrip of photos below the book, there is no command to open the Info panel directly or even a "Show in Moment".
- One way I found in Photos 2.0 to get to the Info panel for a photo on a book page is to select the photo on the page, then click "Options". With the Options panel open, click "Edit Photo".
- When the photo opens in the Editor, the Options panel will change to the Info panel.
- Now you can select and copy the metadata you want to use in your caption or add a keyword to the photo by typing the keyword into the keywords section of the info panel, e.g. "Book".
- If you do that for all photos in your book, you can create a smart album for the photos by searching for "Book" and have easy access to the photos from the smart album.
For example: First select the photo on the page, click Options, click "Edit Photo":
The Options panel panel changed to "Info": We can see the filenames, the pixel size, and other metadata.
I am always collecting the photos I want to use in a project in a standard album before I start on a book or calendar. Then I can drag the photos from the album to the book as I go. I only add the next few photos needed for the next page. That saves scrolling the unused photos. And from the album I can open the Info for the photos I am currently working with.
