Slideover
Slideover lets you bring a second app over to the rightmost quarter of the screen so you can work with two apps at once. You can double press the home button to go to the app switcher, then tap and hold on the app you want to bring into Slideover. In iOS 11 and later, you can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Dock, and tap and hold on one of those app icons.

Slideover works with:

  • iPad mini 2 or later
  • Any iPad Air
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • Any iPad Pro

Split View
Split View lets you bring a second app over and have it share the screen with another app, half and half. This give you more room to work with each app compared to Slideover. You would first bring a second app into Slideover, then drag the little "handle" the appears between the two apps to bring the second app into Split View.

Split View works with:

  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • Any iPad Pro

Picture in Picture
Picture in Picture allows you to watch a video in the corner of the screen while working in another app. You can drag the small video window to any edge of the screen that you like. There should be a button on the video player in the app or website it originated from to take it into Picture in Picture mode.

Picture in Picture works with:

  • iPad mini 2 or later
  • Any iPad Air
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • Any iPad Pro

Drag and Drop
Drag and Drop makes it easy to move files or content between apps. While in Split View or Slideover, just tap and hold on some content - for example, an image embedded into Notes - and then drag it over to another app, and then release your finger. This can work with multiple files at a time, too. Just slightly drag one file, then tap other files, to move them all.

Drag and Drop works with:

Any iPad running iOS 11 or later (iPad mini 2 or later, any iPad Air, iPad (5th generation), any iPad Pro)

If you are not sure what model iPad you have, plug in the serial number at http://checkcoverage.apple.com. The serial number is printed on the back of your iPad, at the bottom, or found by going to Settings > General > About.
