If you keep notes in Internet accounts—for example, iCloud, Google, Yahoo, or AOL—you can add those accounts to Notes on your Mac, and access all your notes in one place. You can view, add, and edit notes in the Notes app on all your devices that use the same accounts, and your changes show up everywhere—so you always have your most current notes at hand.

To use iCloud on your Mac, you need to sign in to iCloud using your existing Apple ID or a new one, then select the iCloud features you want to use.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
  2. Enter your Apple ID (or click Create Apple ID), enter the password, then follow the onscreen instructions.Important: Be sure to use the same Apple ID when signing in to iCloud on all your devices. That way, no matter which device you’re using, you have access to the same photos, desktop and documents files, mail, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, and other documents and data stored in iCloud.

After signing in, you might want to make sure you’re signed in to the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store, as well as Messages and FaceTime, using your Apple ID. For more information, open the app, choose Help > [app name] Help, then review topics about setting up your account and signing in.You can also set up the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store to automatically download store purchases made on your other devices. To add other types of accounts, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Notes > Accounts, then select an account type.If you don’t see your account type, click Add Other Account, then select the account.
  2. Enter your account information, then click Sign In.
  3. Make sure the Notes checkbox is selected for the account.

Each account you add is listed separately in the sidebar. If the sidebar isn’t showing, click the Sidebar button .Be sure to set up your iOS devices to use the same notes accounts, so that your notes stay up to date across all your devices. Temporarily stop using an account .

  1. Choose Notes > Accounts.
  2. Select the account, then deselect the Notes checkbox.The account’s notes aren’t available until you select the checkbox again.To use the account again in Notes, select the Notes checkbox.Remove an account .
    1. Choose Notes > Accounts.
    2. Select the account and click on remove button .When you remove an account, the account’s notes are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of the notes remain in your Internet account (for example, iCloud.com or Yahoo) and any iOS devices you had already set up .If you keep notes in iCloud, you can view, add, and edit those notes on iCloud.com If you upgrade your notes, you can apply paragraph styles, add checklists, attach map locations, lock notes, and even add people to your notes to collaborate with them. (If you move notes from other Internet accounts to your upgraded iCloud account, you can access all the same features in those notes.) Upgraded iCloud notes are only visible on devices that use OS X 10.11 or later or iOS 9 or later. If you lock a note, it’s only visible on devices with iOS 9.3 or later or OS X 10.11.4 or later.
