This tip is not intended to address the full specifications of the iMac G5 models only to help identify an iMac G5.

KB 301724, How to identify iMac G5 models attempts to answer this question but is missing some useful information. Run System Profiler and record
  1. Processor speed
  2. Graphics card information
That information, along with the screen size, will uniquely identify the iMac G5.

NOTES:
  1. Announced Aug 2004.
    • USA and Japan models do not have an autoswitching 100 to 240 volt power supply and MUST ONLY be used on 100-120V systems.
    • Bluetooth - Build-To-Order option.
    • AirPort Extreme optional.
  2. Announced May 2005.
  3. Educational version. No optical drive or modem.
  4. Pictures of the Ambient Light Sensor can be found on Page 2 of "iMac G5 20-inch Power Supply Replacement Instructions" (direct PDF download link) and Page 2 of "iMac G5 17-inch Power Supply Replacement Instructions" (direct PDF download link).
All of these iMac G5s use the same PC3200 RAM. See KB 86814, iMac G5: Memory specifications.

At present, the iMac G5 specifications shown on the AppleSpec page are incomplete. The specifications are listed under the date 2004.09 but in fact apply only to the Ambient Light Sensor model introduced in May, 2005. Hopefully the other specifications will be added in the near future.
