These two books offer excellent starter guides for Mac OS X:
Mac OS X the Missing Manual by David Pogue
The Robin Williams Mac OS X book by Robin Williams (not the actor!)
The first one is geared more towards the technical people, the second for everyone else, though both are handy to have around. They are available at most national bookstore chains in the U.S.
