All,

I'd like to share some of my experience with the minimal set of plug-ins to have installed, to have a "happy" browsing experience using Safari.

1. RealMedia Player
Plug-in name: RealPlayer Plugin
Where to get it: part of the RealPlayer install

2. Windows Media Plugin
Plug-in name: Windows Media Plugin
Where to get it: part of the Windows Media Player install

3. Digital Rights Management
Plug-in name: DRM Plugin.bundle
Where to get it: part of the Windows Media Player install

4. Java 1.3.1 Plug-in
Plug-in name: Java Applet.plugin
Where to get it: part of the Java 1.3.1 install

5. Java 1.3.1 Plug-in (CFM)
Plug-in name: Java Applet Plugin Enabler
Where to get it: part of the Java 1.3.1 install

6. Java 1.4.2 Plug-in (Cocoa)
Plug-in name: JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
Where to get it: part of the Java 1.4.2 install (Panther only)

7. Adobe SVG Viewer v3.0 for Macintosh
Plug-in name: NPSVG3Carbon
Where to get it: Adobe SVG Viewer

8. QuickTime Plug-in 6.5.1
Plug-in name: QuickTime Plugin.plugin
Where to get it: part of the QuickTime 6.5.1 install

9. Shockwave Flash 7.0 r24
Plug-in name: Flash Player.plugin
Where to get it: Flash Player

10. Shockwave for Director
Plug-in name: NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave
Where to get it: Shockwave player

Here is an installation validation page from Macromedia that will test your Flash and Shockwave install.

Also it is my experience that one should only have plug-ins within the root library "Internet Plug-ins" folder:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins/

Of course there are many more plug-ins out there for many other functions, but this set had brought me thousands of hours of "happy" browsing to most web pages I visited.

PS: the hyperlinks provided above are the most recent ones I can find. If they do not work for you, please type in the name of the plug-in into Google (or your favorite search engine) and you will most likely locate the plug-in in question. Of course, the version numbers may not be the latest at the time when you read this post.

I hope this helps.
