Quite a Popular question is can I setup Mail to use my Hotmail account?. The Answer is Yes, but it will require a 3rd party plug-in called httpmail since Hotmail doesn't use the POP or IMAP protocols supported by Mail.

The httpmail plugin can be downloaded from here. Configuring Mail for your Hotmail account should be fairly easy once httpmail is installed. On the Create Account window (if you don't know how to get here, refer to Apple Knowledge Base Article #106683: Mac OS X: How to Set up Mail), you'll setup the following:

Account Type will be httpmail.

Description is whatever you want. Since this is for your Hotmail account, it may be easiest just to put Hotmail.

Email address is your entire Hotmail address (such as example@hotmail.com).

Full Name is of course your name, or at least the Name you want people to see when you send them email.

Incoming Mail Server should just be hotmail.com.

User Name is the part of your email address before the @hotmail.com. With our example email address of example@hotmail.com, the UserID would be example. Password is your Hotmail account's password.

Sometimes pictures are better than words, so to see a screenshot example, click here. If you run into problems getting httpmail to work properly, you can visit either the httpmail Forum or Apple's Forum for Mail and Address Book and ask questions. Good Luck!
