If you have an empty drive or partition it's easy to start clean with Tiger. Here's how:

(The sequence and install times listed are on an iMac G4 800 MHz. Yours will vary depending on amount of data transferred and clock speed):

Mount DVD, choose install> restart > on first screen chose destination volume > "my empty volume".
4:48 pm began install to external:

On first screen choose "Install OS X"
On second screen choose "Customize". (Turn the disclosure triangles to make more choices - The times quoted are without "language translations")

5:00pm "Software Successfully Installed"

Restart
Spinning gear for about 30 sec. on gray screen
Spinning Colored Ball on blue screen about 30 sec.
Welcome Intro Begins
"Do you already own a Mac?" screen
Choose "Transfer my data from another partition", use drop down menu to choose volume.
(Note: You can also use "Migration Assistant Later)
Transfer all available: Users, Network and other settings, Applications Folder and Files & Folders
Began transfer 5:10 PM
Finished transfer at 5:28 pm
When the desktop comes up it should look like a perfect clone of your internal drive, right down to your Dock and toolbar icons. All settings will be preserved. You will barely know you are running in Tiger except for all the new features.

Every app should open and run without incident, including most third party apps. I have tested MS Office X, PS 7, Acrobat Pro 6, Quicken 2005, InDesign 2 and many others without incident

Note: Apple does say, "some transferred applications may need re-installation." Additionally, at this time Norton AntiVirus any other Nortons. Virex and VPC have known issues. They are not yet updated and best removed before install.

After installation remember to repair permissions: (This should be done BEFORE and AFTER software installs and updates.)

1. Navigate to Utilities/DiskUtility and launch Disk Utility.
2. Choose your volume in the sidebar
3. Choose "First Aid" tab
4. Click on "Repair Permissions"
