Some CD burning basics:

*In order to burn a song, the checkbox must be checked.
*There is a size limit on CDs, 74 or 80 minutes on Audio, 650 or 700 MB on data/mp3.
*When you click burn once, any file that is not going to be included on the CD is greyed out.

I'm getting an error trying to burn a disc.

There are several types of errors. This list contains information on the most common.

When burning an MP3 CD:
"some of the songs in this playlist can't be burned..."
"none of the songs in this playlist can be burned..."

These messages usually indicate that you are trying to burn non mp3 files to the CD. iTunes will not convert them on the fly. They need to be in mp3 format before you create the CD. Purchased music from the iTMS can not be directly converted to MP3.

When burning an Audio CD:
"some of the songs in this playlist can't be burned..."

Sometimes this occurs when you have not played music on your computer prior to creating the CD. Playing even a little bit of them will force the authorization routine to finish the process, and usually resolves this error.

"An unknown error has occured (error-xxxx)..."
iTunes is having trouble communicating with your CD Burner. There are many situations that can cause this and most are specific to your computer. In order to get accurate help as quick as possible (no one likes not burning CDs), make sure you post as much detail as possible about your computer. As a minimum, you should include:
* Brand and model of computer if purchased
* CPU, memory, and motherboard if custom built
* The exact error message, including the number
* The brand and model of the burners you have on your computer (directions below)
* The "High and low filters" from the Windows registry (directions below)

How do I find the information for my burners?

This one is my answer.
* Open the Control Panel, then the system applet (sometimes you need to select performance first)
* On the Hardware tab, select "Device Manager"
* Open the section for CD and DVD drives
* Copy the information for each entry exactly

How do I find the "High and Low Filters"

This involves going into the windows registry. You will want to follow the directions carefully, as any changes you make to the registry are immediate. These directions are from toonz who cleaned up an earlier version I had posted:

To find the upper / lower filter information. On the start menu, click on "run". In the dialog that comes up, enter "regedit" (without the quotes) in the text edit field and hit OK. This will open the registry editor. From here on, it is mouse clicks only.

Find the heading HKEY LOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SYSTEM inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading CurrentControlSet. Click
Find the heading Control. Click
Find the heading Class. Click
Find the heading that begins {4D36E965- Click

All these are nested inside one another.

What I'm looking for are the values next to the fields on the right that say "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters".

Copy them down then close the regedit program.

Now type them in a reply.
