I get this message....The software required for communicating with the Ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPods software.
This is toonz' take on this issue:
"You know I had a problem like this once where my iPodServices.exe file got corrupted (don't ask me how) and I did the whole uninstall / install and kept getting the "iPod software not properly installed" message. What I did to fix it was to uninstall iTunes and iPod and then go into the C:\Program Files\ folder and throw away both the iTunes and the iPod folders which will be safe because the software was installed. And then reinstall both packages.
The problem was that I had this corrupted file, but the uninstall wasn't deleting it and the install saw that it was the same version number as the one it wanted to install, so it didn't replace it. There are other things we can try if this doesn't work, but let's try this.
The music and the iTunes library are kept in the My Document\My Music\iTunes folder and won't be impacted by this."
