In recent discussions on Mac OS X installation and setup it has become apparant that the system updates necessitate Apple applications be located in the same folder they were in when they were first installed. People applying the 10.2.1 update have found that if they moved Image Capture and Mail to a different folder, the 10.2.1 update left behind a non-functional copy of the application in the Applications folder. It may necessitate a reinstall of 10.2 to get things back to where they were, and then reapplying the 10.2.1 update. If you want applications to be stored in your home or favorites folder, make an alias of them by selecting them by a single click and select make alias in the File menu. That alias can then be stored wherever you like.
