This is primarily for Mac OS X 10.2 and above:

For Mac OS X 10.1.5 and earlier there is this page:

http://www.macmaps.com/oldMacosxspeed.html

Explains various speed tips that will help anyone with a Powerbook G3/233 or higher gain the most speed from their machine.

In addition, if you have third party software that you think needs optimizing, send the developer to this link:

http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/04/05/altivec.html

There they can learn how Apple's G4 processor can be 4 to 5 times faster than a comparably priced PC. You will only get speed if you ask for it.
