There are four 'feet' on the underside of every iBook that are important for a variety of reasons: They slightly raise the iBook off the hard surface it is on in order to facilitate proper airflow for cooling the iBook's internal components, they make sure your iBook doesn't 'slide around', and they protect some of the screws that hold your iBook together.

It is important for you to replace your iBook's missing feet as soon as possible:

  • If your iBook is still within it's 90-day phone support warranty, or if you have purchased AppleCare for your iBook (extending this warranty to three years), you should call Apple and ask for replacements. The phone representative will ask you for some information about your computer, then he or she will probably have Apple send you replacements.

  • Another option is to bring your iBook to the nearest Apple Store or Apple-Authorized Repair Center. Ask the Genius at the Apple Store or a service representative elsewhere if he or she is able to give you replacement feet for your iBook. Usually, the store should have extras that they are able to give to iBook owners.

Ways to prevent your iBook's feet from coming off:

  • Do not 'drag' your iBook on a hard surface
  • Do not pick or pull the feet.
  • When sliding the iBook into a laptop sleeve or laptop case, try to not put pressure on the underside of the iBook
  • When setting your iBook on a hard surface, do not let it slide.
