For International users (non-US keyboard layout) getting excessive activity on windowserver.log at every keypress. Affects Panther and Tiger.
b - Q: "Every time I press a key on the keyboard, windowserver.log gets an entry:
May 05 16:54:36 [99] kCGErrorNoneAvailable: CGXKeyEventTranslate: key translation failure"
Actually, it is two lines every time; all entries are identical (except for the time stamp, of course...).
b - A: "Enable the root user and login as root. Switch to US keyboard layout only. Reboot, disable root, login with your normal user account and now you should be able to add and use your local keyboard settings without getting these messages anymore."
b NOTE: make sure you can type your password with US keyboard layout, if not, change the password temporary to something you can type without trouble with US keyboard layout.
In a word:
Root must have the US layout only.
- (Kb article #106290) Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
- Don't forget to disable root!
To check your log start Console application (Found in Applications/Utilities folder)
Select Logs -> var/log and scroll down untill you find windowserver.log
