Is it possible to install Mac OS X on a PC ?

From time to time, users wanting to switch ask if it is possible to install and use Mac OS X on a PC. This FAQ answers that question and explains why.

I - Mac OS X and the Mac
Mac OS X, a UNIX-based operating system has been designed to take full advantage of the blazingly fast G4 processors used in most Macintoshes or the G3 processors that may be found in the iBooks, for example.

It has also been designed to unleash breakthrough graphics or networking technologies by taking advantage of advanced components commonly used by Apple.

Therefore, Mac OS X won't run on a PC.
