Export all Contacts from Palm desktop (>= Version 4) in VCard-Format.

Open the exported file in BBedit.
Select "File-Menu -> Save As"
In the Saving-Dialog, click on the Options Button.
Check "Save as Unicode"
DON'T check the other Unicode-Options.
Click OK.
Click Save.

Done. Now all Foreign Characters (as for example Umlauts as ÖÄÜ) will display properly on your iPod's Contacs!

While I am wondering, why my Address book 3.0.2 (v216) on OS X 10.2.3 isn't able to find names with "umlaut" or mutated vowels in the 3rd position or more behind the first character of the name or word, I met this discussion about Importing contacts from palm. I am using a PSION by the way, before I changed to Mac. I Imported my addresses form Entourage, but the umlaut remains unsolved.
Can you help me?
It seems to work fine for me with Address Book 3.0.3 in OS 10.2.4. Are you still seeing the problem?
