Saving space on external disk when creating Lion Recovery

  1. Format your external disk into more than one partitions using Disk Utility.
  2. Make the first partition 1GB, (Mac, Journaled).
  3. Now choose your new 1GB partition during install. You may have to restart to mount the disk again.
