It is wasteful to use a separate sheet of expensive photo paper for each copy of the photo, if we only need small, wallet-sized versions or small photos for a passport.

In Photos for Mac we can easily put several photos on one sheet, but only if they are different photos or versions.

So, to get the same photo multiple times onto the same sheet, we have to create several identical versions of the photo.

To print eight versions of the photos on one sheet:

  • Enter repeatedly the key combination Command-D (⌘D). This will just create new versions of the same photo without using much extra storage.
  • Now select all versions at once, then enter ⌘P, to open the Print dialog.
  • Use the "Custom" layout or contact sheet and specify the desired print size of the photos on the paper at the bottom of the pane and click "Print".
  • Then delete the additional versions, that you no longer need.

For example (My screenshot is from Photos 4.0, but it has been similar in earlier versions of Photos):

Alternately, you can use the "Fit" layout for one photo per sheet, but then tell your printer to scale it down to several pages per sheet, for example:

This makes it easier to get the aspect ratio right and to prevent cropping, without having to calculate the print size manually.

But you still need to create as many copies of your photo as you want to go on one page. It helps to use the command ⌘N to create an album from the selected duplicates, so can easily find them afterwards again and delete them.
