After a system update you may be seeing an alert, that an application you just launched will be incompatible with future system versions (See: 32-bit app compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later - Apple Support). The next version of MacOS X to come (MacOS X 15.x.y) will probably no longer support 32-bit applications.

Before you decide to upgrade or not next fall, make an inventory of your installed applications. You can get a full list of applications and plug-ins and their 64-bit status using the System Information utility.

  • To launch the System Information, hold down the options key ⌥ while clicking the -menu in the upper left corner of the display.
  • Click the first item "System Information".

  • In the system Information panel scroll down in the sidebar to Applications and click it.
  • Make the panel wide enough by dragging the corners to see all columns. You can make the columns narrower by dragging the dividing lines in the title bar.
  • Click the 64-bit column to sort the applications by 64 Bit (Intel) or not.

Looking at the result I can see that I will need new versions of Carbon Copy Cloner and Audacity, if I should decide to upgrade to a future MacOS 10.15 and I would have to say to GarageBand 6.0.5 and QuickTime Player 7, as no updates will be available.
