Use an Animated GIF Image as a Background

Animated GIF Images as a Screensaver:

Do you ever want to have an animated GIF image as your Desktop background image or as a screensaver?


If so, then here is a nifty trick...:


Use a Windows XP Virtual Machine (VM).

You Would...

Set the Desktop to be fully cleared of icons and taskbars. Then, you’d maximize the VM window. It wouldn't officially be a screensaver, though it would appear as such.


Four Major Steps on how to Perform this:


I. Hide Desktop Items:

  1. Right Click: Desktop
  2. Turn Off: Show Desktop Icons


II. Hide the Taskbar:

  1. Right-Click: The Taskbar
  2. Select: Properties
  3. Uncheck: Lock the Taskbar


III. Change the Desktop Background

  1. Right-Click: on the Animated GIF image
  2. Select: Open With...
  3. Select: Windows Picture & Fax Viewer
  4. Right-Click: On the Animated GIF Image
  5. Select: Set as Desktop Background
  6. Close: Windows Picture & Fax Viewer
