Since macOS 13 Ventura the list of People albums can be sorted alphabetically, automatically. But we can still not group the people albums with folders or subfolders, even on Ventura. SO you may want to try the procedure outlined here also on Ventura.

Have you also many, many named faces in your Photos Library and are having trouble to keep them organised? The People album in my main library has currently 950 named people, and because of the huge thumbnails I can only see four rows with 7 people at a time on one page of faces. So I have to drag a new person across 34 pages of faces to drag the thumbnail to the top of the list. This makes the manual sorting tedious and error prone.

I decided to create my own People album, on top of the built-in face detection, where I can group deleted people with folders an subfolders and sort the people alphabetically

This can be done with smart albums and folders and subfolders.

  • Create a folder "My Sorted People album"
  • Open this folder in the sidebar.
  • For each named person create a smart album: "File > New Smart album" and name it like the person
  • Set the rule of the smart album to "Person is ..." and select the name of the person
  • Now you can sort your own People album by ctrl-clicking the folder and selecting "Sort by Name"
  • You can structure your own People album by creating subfolders for each family or related groups of people. Add for example a subfolder for your friends, a subfolder for your colleagues, a subfolder for the family members.

For example, just a few named statues and animals:

It will not work however, if you need to sort thousands of people, because Photos may be very slow , if you create too many smart albums.
