When creating a presentation, if you’re concerned about what happens if you create slide links then need to add new slides, don’t be. Keynote smartly keeps track of your links for you.

To try it out, start Keynote, choose any template, and then Duplicate the slide on the left 3 times (you should now have new presentation with 4 slides).

  1. On slide 4, click on the text box and type “SLIDE 4”.
  2. Next, go back to slide one and create a square.
  3. Create a link on the square and point it to slide 4.
  4. Play the presentation and confirm it goes to slide 4.
  5. Now, duplicate slide 3. Your prior slide 4 should now be slide 5 of your presentation.
  6. Play your presentation again.

You should see that the link you created to slide 4 previously now takes you to slide 5 (with the SLIDE 4 text), with no additional steps required from you.

Even if you take that slide you’re linking to and move it to a different position in the Presentation (say to slide 2), the link will continue to work and take you to a slide that says “SLIDE 4”.
