When downloading applications from various sources in Mac OS X, a download with a disk image DMG file usually results. Many people get confused and try to run the application from the disk image, only to find the next time they boot, the disk image is no longer mounted and the application no longer runs. Or they eject the disk image icon, and the application doesn't run. To avoid confusion follow these steps.

Always keep at least two copies of your applications and data at all times. Anything you can download from the App Store is good as long as the developer is actively updating an application.

is an unmounted disk image from the Finder.

Smart applications like this one design their image to show you to copy the application to the Applications folder. or provide an installer in their DMG image to do so. Some you find an application there, but still needs to be put in Applications folder to run successfully each time. Never shortcut an application on the Dock or Finder directly from the image, as that will lead to apparent corruption of ? mark icons in the Dock and shortcuts that won't run.

Anydesk is a third party software that allows remote control of your Mac by another person who has it and has the "This Desk" number of your Mac, and your Mac System Preferences has all the Security and Privacy preferences allowing Anydesk the types of control it desires. It is only shown here as an example of how many applications function.
