Microsoft has indicated Office 2019, for the Mac is having an end of life this year on October 10, 2023. This is the last version of Office officially supporting High Sierra. What this means is the following:

  1. Upgrade to Catalina and all 64 bit applications before the October deadline, as Office 2021 is available for Catalina till 2026.
  2. See if an Office alternative

works for you. The earlier operating systems can access the last two alternatives on older web browsers.

3.Keep a copy of High Sierra or earlier maintained with frequent clone backups, as

at some point Microsoft may choose to turn off the license server, and recovering from Microsoft all the licensed features may become difficult in the future. Some clone backups may only work after reinstalling the OS cloned directly onto the clone, or using the Migration Assistant to import the clone. The clone retains the license files even if Microsoft has turned off its licensing server for older releases. The downside is that security improvements of new releases are not included.

Many people find the formatting of their Word files or Excel documents are not exactly the same on Office alternative titles. This can pose a significant problem if your formatting is dependent on it for résumés or similar documents.

Running Windows on a Mac may be easier than upgrading the operating system as well.
