How to diagnose why your Apple Watch uses a LOT of battery.

First check on watch Settings, Battery, Battery Health. Max Capacity must be at least 80%. Whilst there you might also want to turn off Optimised Charging which may start your day on 80% charged or less.

Remember that the software on your iPhone is far more likely to cause the Watch to use battery than any OS update. There are a lot of stages to go through below, please try all of them until you get improvement.

If your Watch gets warm or uses battery big time after swimming have it inspected at an Apple Store or contact Apple Support for water damage.

Make sure to turn off background app refresh and  check walkie talkie is not accidentally turned on.

Turning off "always on" will extend battery hours.

Check there is no workout running in background.

If you use your cellular Watch away from your iphone, do not keep cellular on for extended periods. Turn it off manually.

Make sure you have no App Store VPN or VPN based ad-blocker on the iphone. Uninstall it then remove any profiles (iPhone Settings, General VPN & Device Management), and other security apps can be problematic.

Ensure all iPhone apps are updated in App Store.

After that Force restart your watch i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then while the Watch is restarting Force Restart the paired iphone

Try it for a couple of days especially if you sync photos to your Watch.

If the battery still drains  then Unpair the watch ...

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support

and then pair it again.

Set up your Apple Watch – Apple Support

If no improvement unpair and set up as a new watch (no backup restore)

You will lose your faces and some settings but they could be bad settings.

Then if still no better your watch hardware may be a problem. You can check overnight in a powered-off, off-charge test for a self-discharging battery which is not as rare as you may think.
