Will WhatsApp chat history be included in iCloud or iTunes device backups?
When it comes to WhatsApp chat history backups, there are two separate backup options available:
- iCloud Backup: WhatsApp provides an option to back up your chat history to iCloud directly from within the app. This backup is separate from the general iCloud backup for your iOS device. If you enable this feature in WhatsApp settings, your chat history will be stored in your iCloud storage and can be restored when setting up a new device or reinstalling WhatsApp.
- iTunes Backup: iTunes backups are created when you connect your iOS device to a computer and perform a backup using iTunes. iTunes backups typically include app data, but if your WhatsApp chat history is already backed up to iCloud using the feature in WhatsApp Settings, it will not be duplicated in the iTunes backup. In other words, iTunes will not include WhatsApp chat history if it is already backed up on iCloud using the feature in WhatsApp Settings.
To summarize, if you have enabled the WhatsApp iCloud backup feature, your chat history will be stored in iCloud separately from iTunes backups. Restoring your device from an iTunes backup will not include WhatsApp chat history if it is already backed up on iCloud. Therefore, to ensure a complete backup and restore of your WhatsApp chat history, it is recommended to either use the WhatsApp iCloud backup feature or perform an iTunes backup specifically for WhatsApp.
