Turning Off Button Shapes (AKA: The Blue Rectangle)
”Help! There’s a weird blue rectangle on my options in different apps, and I don’t know how to get rid of it! What should I do!?
As we know, this scenario has been repeated over and over in the Forums of ASC.
So what is this “blue rectangle?” It is a somewhat lesser-known Accessibility feature called “Button Shapes.” If you still don’t know what I’m referring to, here’s a screenshot:
As of now, there are two effective ways of turning this feature off.
Number 1: You can navigate to this feature in Settings by going to: Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Now, you can turn off “Button Shapes”; it is somewhere near the top.
This will usually turn off the “blue rectangle”. But sometimes, it doesn’t, and panic ensues. “I’ve tried everything! I’ve tried turning it off in Settings > Accessibility, I’ve tried restarting the device many times, I’ve even tried updating my phone! But it won’t turn off!”
This brings us to the second method of turning this feature off, a trick which not many people know about, and the main reason for this User Tip.
Number 2: It seems like the “Grayscale Color Filter” can also cause this issue. So, to turn this feature off if turning the setting itself off didn’t work, please scroll down from the “Button Shapes” setting, and tap on “Color Filters.” Now, turn ON Color Filters, and select the Red/Green Color Filter. Now, turn Color Filters back OFF. This will fix the issue.
I wish 🫵, a very, very wonderful day! Good Luck!
