In order to monitor your walking or running pace during a workout you can have the watch give a pace and read it out at predetermined distance such as every 250 metres, called a Split.

At the end of each split Siri will read out the pace for that split.

First get your Watch ready for maximum notifications

  1. On iPhone, Watch app, My Watch tab, Sounds &Haptics, turn Alert volume to maximum, and set Haptics to Prominent
  2. On Watch, Settings, Siri, Siri responses, Voice volume - Speaker, set to maximum

Next set up the split

For WatchOS 26

Pull up the workout you have chosen but don’t start it, simply tap on the Bell (= Alerts)

Then scroll and tap on Splits

Turn on Split Alerts then tap on Distance

Then select the required split

TapSet then arrow back to the workout.

for WatchOS 10, 11

Pull up the workout you have chosen but don’t start it, simply tap on the three dots

Then using the Crown scroll down to the end and tap on preferences (OS10, 11)

Then tap on Splits

Then select the distance you want the split to be and tap SET

Arrow back to the start

You should do this again for other workouts (walk, cycle) and you can set a different distance for each

Finally since OS26 it has been possible to view live workout data on your iphone for a lot more workouts other than cycling such as walking if that helps
