Although Apple has discontinued iWeb, the latest version - V 3.0.4 - still works when using Lion/Mountain Lion. The user library is hidden so, to get to the Domain.sites2 file in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb, you need to select the Finder Go menu and hold down the Option key to get to it.

Also you will find that opening a Domain.sites2 file for the first time requires a helper app. See this page for more info…

If you have iWeb ‘08 or older, do not update your OS beyond Snow Leopard. Alternatively, you can run Snow Leopard from an external drive since all versions are stable under this OS.

For those of you who are buying a new Mac, make sure you transfer iWeb, and its associated files, to it from the old one using Migration Assistant.app. You will find this in the Utilities folder.

Although, at the time of writing, you can still purchase the iLife ‘09 and ‘11 disks from retailers such as Amazon, its hardly worth buying an app which is out of date and virtually redundant. Do a search of the iWeb forum for suggested replacements.

Since the closure of MobileMe in June 2013 certain Widgets don’t work such as Google Maps and AdSense. See the above page for more info.

Also, its necessary to publish your site using one of the methods shown on this page…

… and to upload your files to another hosting service…

Most of the MobileMe only features can be replaced by alternatives…
