Command-E & FCP X 10.0.8

As of Final Cut Pro X’s 10.0.8 update there is a very useful change to the Share menu’s Command-E keyboard shortcut.  This little known, widely overlooked change is really great, makes this shortcut more powerful and useful, and shows what amazing innovations we can look forward to in the future of FCP X development.  Here I’ll show you how to verify what changed, and how to configure it to YOUR personal preference!  I absolutely LOVE this change!  Thanks Dev Team!

1- Keyboard Shortcut Verification

  • Go to the “Final Cut Pro” menu at the top left of the screen.
  • Go to the “Commands” option.
  • Make sure “Default” is set.
  • Go to the “Customize” option, or use the Option-Command-K keyboard shortcut.
  • In the keyboard layout, click on the “E” key.
  • Look in the right hand side listing and you’ll see Command-E is assigned to “Export Using Default Share Destination”.

2- Setting The Default Destination

The Command-E keyboard shortcut is now assigned to the “Default Share Destination”.  But a default Destination is not set by, um, default.  Here is how how to set it up to your own liking:

  • Command-comma to open Preferences.
  • Go to the Destinations section.
  • Right-click the Destination you want to set at

the Default.

  • That Destination will now read as it’s name with “(default)” after it’s name, and responds to the Command-E keyboard shortcut.
