Delay in shutdown issue

Hello and welcome

Some of you might be experiencing a delay in shutdown and either aware of it or not.

When you go to shutdown and there are no other programs asking to save or whatever, your screen turns gray, black etc., like it's going to shutdown, but it takes like 20 seconds to do so instead of right away or with a few seconds.

What I suspect is occurring is there is some sort of stuck process and at the 20 second point OS X just shuts down regardless, so the object is to find out what that stuck process is and then you can delete/reinstall or address the software responsible for it.

So to do this you need to enable always on verbose mode, which will instead of the gray screen at boot and shutdown, you will see the black screen with white type and the background business going on, which will show the stuck processes at the top of the display area when you shutdown.

You need to be in a Admin account to perform this Terminal command (in your Applications/Utilities folder)

To turn on Verbose booting, at the Terminal copy/paste the following:

sudo nvram boot-args="-v"

Disabling Verbose booting:

sudo nvram boot-args=

Press enter and at the next line enter your admin password (won't show anything) and press enter.

Now Apple Menu > Shutdown and observe the processes at the top for a clue to your issue.

Good Luck 🙂
