MacBook with USB-C a new generation

March 9, 2015, Apple released its first MacBook without the Pro or Air monitor since it discontinued a similar model on July 19, 2011.


The new model can be identified through the Apple menu -> About This Mac -> System Report with a model identifier of MacBook 8,1 or later.


If no access exists to the operating system to boot the machine, its brand new USB-C port is quite distinctive:

USB-C is quite different from the USB-2 found on older models, shown on image below:

The USB-C model, is the first MacBook without the Pro or Air moniker to no longer have built-in support for Rosetta. This tip explains what that means:
