Are you syncing photos to your iPhone? If you are I would (if it lets you) uncheck the boxes for photo syncing and see if that works.

    hi there
no unfortunately this does not change anything. when I select sync photos from: iphoto, nothing appears in the box below. None of the iphoto albums appear.

The problem is more than likely a corruption in your iPhoto Library. I had same problem and resolved it via the following steps:

1.) Close iPhoto and iTunes (to insure no hidden files are locked)
    2.) Disconnect iPhone from computer
3.) Rebuild the iPhoto Library as follows:
    - Hold down the <Apple><Option> keys and keep holding them while starting iPhoto
    - This will bring up the Rebuild dialog box; select all options

NOTE: It will take several minutes to rebuild the database and thumbnails.

4.) After iPhoto completes its work, startup iTunes and connect the iPhone again. This should sync all content first and then being to "optimize the photo links" from iPhone to iPhoto

5.) Check that Photo Albums/Events Now Show up in the Photo Area on the iPhone Tabs

FULL SYNCING FUNCTIONALITY SHOULD BE RESTORED!
