Upgrade to iTunes 9 (70) has hidden my podcasts. I look forward to finding them.

Why on earth would an upgrade mess with a familiar view of downloaded podcasts with the little blue dot showing the podcasts not yet listened to, and a refresh button to bring in newly released podcasts we subscribe to?

My wife and I each have some tens of audio podcasts we subscribe to and listen to on a daily basis. My wife also loads and brings her iPod nano with her to work.

Imagine our consternation when an hour or so of struggle have yet to show our familiar view of our podcasts, or for that matter any view of them at all.

I have been a Mac support person since the days of the Lisa and the Mac 128, so I am reasonably familiar with looking through menus and preferences.

I plan to try tech support to resolve this issue.

MacBookPro3,1, Mac OS X (10.6), Intel Core 2 Duo

You say you are familiar with Apple systems, including preferences, but have you confirmed that in the Preferences for iTunes > General panel that the Podcasts box is checked?

Don't know if it is related, but after going thru a series of upgrades ( 10.6-> iTune 9 -> 10.6.1 ), I discovered several podcasts were "missing" from the iTunes list, yet the files were THERE in the Podcasts folder under iTunes Music. Using the "add to library" let me manually select and add them in and now all is right with the world (although it looked at first like the Grid view was all messed up with dups etc...it eventually consolidated everything and is now looking correct).

I presume there was a glitch in one of the upgrades that converted the library.

iTunes 9 prevents managing podcasts in a playlist. I used to put all my queued up podcasts in a playlist so I could control the order and play back selected episodes sequentially. iTunes 9 lets me create and manage the playlists but does not transfer the podcasts contained therein to an iPhone or iPod. I don't know what gives but I've submitted it as a bug.

This is important and may even have safety implications. if going on a long drive, for example, queueing up selections in a playlist is far safer than selecting them on the go.

In other cases, being able to reorder podcasts and keep them in playlists was a great feature. Now my podiobooks and music obtained via podcast is much harder or impossible to find or manage. kinda screws up my Jonathan Coulton, The FuMP and Sigler content.

I hope they fix this sooner.

This is a new bug. Funny thing is that the playlist works fine on iTunes, but not anymore on the iPod which was not updated.

I want a playlist with all not played Podcasts. Unfortunately, I can't select Podcasts using Smart Playlists on the iPod (Classic in my case). I have tried: 'Genre' is 'Podcast', 'Media kind' is 'Podcast', 'Media kind' is not 'Music'. In all cases the result was zero Podcasts in the iPod.

This was working fine before the update to iTunes 9.

I just had the misfortune of finding out that iTunes 9 refuses to x-fer my podcast list to my iPod. I concur with the "safety" comment because I listen to my podcast while I commute in on my bicycle. I hope Apple gets to this quickly. If anybody figures out a work around I would appreciate it.

Same here. I use a smart playlist to gather up unplayed podcasts with either the podcast genre (from feeds) or podcast media type (from iTunes). The list is OK in iTunes, but on the iPod/Phone only the genre files appear. It's either due to iTunes 9 or 10.6 or both, I wasn't watching closely enough. I reported it as well, glad I'm not the only one.

Same here with two iPdos but curiously my iPhone (v3.1) has the playlist synced correctly. Maybe we are due for an iPod software upgrade.

I may have a solution (similar to another thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2160296&tstart=0).

If you go to the Podcasts tab and select 'Sync Podcast', 'Automatically include all unplayed (or other?)' episodes of selected podcast' and down the bottom choose the smart playlist you have already set-up.

In music include the same smart playlist.

In my case the required files seem to be in the smart playlist on the iPod.

Since iTunes 9.0, podcasts in playlists do not transfer to a mobile device (can you say "bug"?). Until Apple fixes this annoying problem, here is my workaround:

Move your podcasts to a playlist
Select all the podcasts and right click to Get Info
Select Options and change the media type to Audiobook
The files in playlists will now transfer
After listening, change media type back to Podcast and they will return to the appropriate podcast directory

One problem with this approach is that it apparently does NOT show the podcast as played and will eventually (in a few days) cause the podcast to stop updating. Check your podcast library often to those little exclamation marks to restart downloading.
