    Any ideas?

The only thing I have figured out is that the eDrive I had created with TTP5 and subsequently removed to allow for the install of SL, failed to restore the space it had used back to the original single partition and left two partitions, the second which is now "Free Space" and unconfigurable.

    Thanks.

I do have the "Suspicious MBR at sector 0" instead of the PMBR problem

    Disk: /dev/disk0 geometry: 30401/255/63 [488397168 sectors]

    4: 0C 1023 2 3 - 1023 0 10 [ 461785088 - 26611712] Win95 FAT32L

Since I have working OSX-Ubuntu and WinXP, I would rather not clean install everything.

I did not yet try the gparted trick, which partition should I try to shrink ?
The HFS+ (partition 2), the linux (partition 3) or the free ones between 3 and 4 and after 4 ?

Again, I want to try a non destructive method..
Thanks for dealing with this trouble anyway

Many thanks! Snow Leopard now installing (time remaining: about 33 minutes) from the disk supplied with the machine. (Took me a while to realise I had to reboot from instal disk to access partition tab.)

Started to upgrade my 3 yr old MacBook Pro 15", and SL install complains:
*Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer.*

I do not have PGP installed. I have tried resizing my (only) partition to smaller (and back). This is what the disk commands say:

William Maxwell's simple solution worked for me.
I was not using PGP or anything
    Thank You.

"For all affected users: Please open Disk Utility > Highlight the boot HD > click on the partition tab. Just move the partition size a bit and return to original value. Then hit apply. Then see if the install works. Thanks."

I'm up and running after resigning to backing up to a time machine drive, installing SL fresh, and then using the Migration Assistant to restore my apps/docs/settings, etc. . For those of you who are still unable to install SL using the partition "wiggler" method (like myself), the above solution was relatively painless... so it isn't as bad as it sounds.
