I have a similar problem after I have synched with the iphone. I get 20 copies of an album. One listed for each artist on that album. This is only for compilations though!

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers. I suspect completing the *Album Artist* field for your compilations, e.g. as "Various Artists", will do the trick.

    Hi guys

Have we decided that for a complete fix, it's better to wait for Apple to release the bug fix?

I did try to add the disc number tab, but that does not save it once you quit iTunes.

C'mon Apple, I miss the correct runnung order of all my double or more albums!

sorry, i did read all of the posts before mine, but i hadnt picked up on that..
also my posts (after re reading them) sound very snobbish... I apologise

Apple rocks, but its little things like this...
how do thewy even manage to break that feature? what did they do... completely rewrite the software ?

also anyone else feel they prefered the grey / black background in grid view?

Apple does rock! That's why we all love them, but as you said basic things like this just seem a crazy thing to go wrong!

I wasn't really a fan of the white at first, but it's not offended me in the way most other people have stated. Apple should make it optional as to what background you can have, and I think they'll have to bring that into the next update. I'm disappointed that the album and artists tabs have gone from the main screen and you have to find them through the options in the bar now.

As it happens I've always renumbered my multi-disc albums seqentially which masks the problem but it should only affect the sequence of tracks in iTunes in the Album by Artist & Album by Year views. If you've other grouping issues in iTunes or iPod see my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular One album, too many covers and subsequent topics.

It's alright, I got a little strident I guess. Can you feel the love in here?

I hope there is a way to bring back the grey/black background too. It's not about the design of the program or not liking the aesthetic, it's about making a program easier on the eyes.

I've found that even when you have each disc sorted as a separate album it doesn't solve the problem. Here is why:

When you have a compilation album that is a double album, both discs might have different artists on them, but sometimes one disc is entirely composed of tracks by a single artist. When this is the case iTunes will actually sort those discs ahead of the others (god knows why).

Anyways, I'm just going to tolerate this whole thing for now, keeping things sorted by album. I hope that they fix this... it's totally ridiculous and unprofessional for such a popular piece of software to be this messed up.

Had heart failure when I found this too and was glad to find others with the same issue. Makes listening to Opera really weird!

This method has fixed it for me so far but usually only show the Albums in Grid View, my apologies if this is the Sort Method mentioned above (I posted this in a shorter thread before I saw this one) but I am not sure it is the same.

    1. Open up the track list for one of these albums (double click on it in the album view). It really can be any album but you need multiple discs to see the results change

    2. Pick View Options on the menu. Check the Disc # to add it to the grid and then click on that column to sort on it. This will sort the grid and, more importantly, the play order by disc then Track Number which I expect is the way you want to play things.

Doing this fixed the sort in all my other albums as well. For me the play list was screwed up not just the display as some others have indicated.

Kind of wonder what programmer changed this and why their Q/A didn't catch it.

Was amused that I wrote this "Lots of folks are going to be surprised this week if the load up the new White Album release, group it, and get a "new" play order" before reading that so many people on this thread had found it the same way. I did renumber track list on the White Album, as some have mentioned, but when it happened on the Past Masters too I decided it wasn't user error.

Very, very annoying bug! I always have my collection set on "album by year" - yeah, it's anal, but I like to have my albums in the correct order by artist. I'm not going to start messing, though, as I'd like to think there'll be an update very soon ... hopefully! If not, I'll just go back to version 8.

Oh, and for the record, I noticed this whilst listening to "The White Album", too!
