Sep 25, 2009 1:18 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by Magdalena Rood,iTunes behaving spontaneously on my computer(s) as well. I put my computer to sleep when I leave the office in the evening and iTunes will be playing when I get back in the morning. I don't see anything in preferences to control random stopping in the middle of a podcast and otherwise random playing of audiobooks, podcasts, music. It's time for update 9.02. -
Sep 26, 2009 4:40 AM in response to Magdalena Roodby Paul Keeton1,I found my own solution here. The problem was the USB hub I was using to connect the iPod to the Mac, which had a dodgy connection. This meant that as the connection intermittently broke and re-made, then the re-connection made iTunes launch. -
Sep 28, 2009 2:09 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by Garry Bradley,I've started getting this over the last couple of days after the last iTunes update under Snow Leopard. iTunes is 9.0.1. I thought a restart would sort it but no. Time to clean out the preferences I think. -
Sep 30, 2009 11:59 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by MacDaddy 13,Was having the same problem but seemed to have solved it. Did the following:
1. Went into CDs and DVDs prefs and set when you insert a music CD and picture CD to ignore
2. Went into iTunes -> prefs -> Devices and unchecked "Look for remote speakers connected with Airtunes" and "Look for iPhone and iPod touch Remotes"
3. Installed Lingon (http://lingon.sourceforge.net/) and checked all my startup processes and Daemons. Found some old things like MySQL trying to launch (even though web sharing is off) and an old Maxtor one touch driver and disabled the processes or removed them.
4. Checked the console log to be sure nothing else was running or creating an error that I didn't need anymore.
I apologize that I can't say what solved it, but aside from the prefs in the apps, it may have been an old piece of software (like my old Maxtor drive) that was still trying to run that may have been triggering itunes.
Good luck to all. -
Oct 1, 2009 6:17 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by bcrumbaugh,Started having the same problem yesterday (9/30). iTunes is starting automatically every 2-3 minutes on my computer. I've tried restarting computer, sleep and wake-up, looked through iTunes preferences as well as System Preferences and like others, can't find any way of stopping this. I've sent an "iTunes Feedback" to apple regarding the problem. As I am doing presentations all this week and next week and using Keynote - with audio and video - this is exceptionally annoying as I have to stop every few minutes, switch over to iTunes and quite the program. My audience (which is captive for the next 8 days from 8a-6p) is going from amused to frustrated as I deal with this issue. Any other ideas out there until apple gets around to responding? -
Oct 1, 2009 12:56 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by f0rgiven,Thanks for the link bcrumbaugh
I am going to throw my hat in on this as my itunes starts automatically. Started yesterday so i have not discovered any time frame that it starts. Last night, it woke my family up at 5:11 in the morning playing music on its own. Then again this afternoon at 12:14 or so it did the same thing. SL 10.6.1 and itunes 9.0.1 -
Oct 1, 2009 1:23 PM in response to Magdalena Roodby Magdalena Rood,The problem appears to be resolved. I did absolutely nothing except to shut down for minute or so. It's been several days since I noticed any independent iTunes action. -
Oct 6, 2009 3:06 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by Tyrone Vaughn,Oct 6 16:57:39 BigMac [0x0-0x30030].com.apple.iTunes[416]: Child process initialized.
That's the error/entry I get every time (minus a hex and pid change).
And, suddenly, iTunes just starts.
Ideas? -
Oct 18, 2009 1:30 PM in response to Tyrone Vaughnby f0rgiven,This problem went away and now it has started again. This time, itunes just automatically starts. It does not start playing music like my last post/problem. I have rebooted still happens. -
Oct 30, 2009 8:08 AM in response to f0rgivenby MarkUkraine,We have this problem now.
Uncertain as to why... we recently downloaded some podcasts, but other than that, nothing is different.
May shut down and try restarting... and go figure... even after a force quit, it just reopened on it's own.
Lovely. -
Nov 1, 2009 1:18 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by ericj_,i'm having the same problem and it is driving me crazy, almost to the point of uninstalling itunes -
Nov 2, 2009 9:48 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by AN89AG,Same problem here. My iTunes is 9.0.2(25) which is not an option on the drop-down menu when I send an iTunes Feedback! Sounds like iTunes and Snow Leopard are not playing well together.

Nov 8, 2009 2:42 PM in response to Paul Keeton1by luke_old_boy,Same here! iTunes starts on his own initiative, sometimes playing a song... throw away the pref file seems not to have any effect -
Nov 14, 2009 8:18 AM in response to Paul Keeton1by unicorn27,I've been having the same issue with iTunes starting unexpectedly. Initially I thought it was random, but now I've noticed that it happens when Time Machine has finished backing-up to my Time Capsule, just as the back-up volume is dismounted.
It has something to do with the systems that automatically launch iTunes, such as when you mount an iPhone or iPod. But so far, no amount of messing with the preferences or trashing preference files has made any difference.
I hope it's a bug that Apple are aware of (I've reported it) and they are working on a fix...
