I have a new podcast episode

the feed is here
feed://feeds2.feedburner.com/UkeylovecomPodcasts

I have sent it as a ping
like this
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=feed:// feeds2.feedburner.com/UkeylovecomPodcasts

but it doesn't seem to be getting on itunes when I submit via the itunes submit it says feed already submitted and I get the first episode on there.

What am I doing wrong?

2.4 core duo I mac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You're not doing anything wrong, except in apparently trying to submit your feed: it's already been accepted and shows in the Store, and once this has happened you don't submit it again. When you add an episode iTunes will eventually pick it up and it will show in the Store, but this will take 1-2 days, sometimes more. It will show immediately for subscribers, as it is doing now.

You can ping the Store, but I've never been convinced it makes any difference. Actually I don't think your ping URL is quite right: try

    cool

How do I make my podcast more searchable i.e.

I have many songs on there so for instance Nick plays a brilliant version of Cocaine on the podcast how do I get that info so when people type in cocaine in itunes our podcast comes up as an option?

Is it possible to update that info once it is up on itunes like it is now?

iTunes Store works on the podcast title and Description, not as far as I can see the episodes; you could include the information you want to be searchable in the Description. If you amend the description and re-upload the feed then iTunes will display it the next time it checks you feed - usually this takes 1-2 days.

So I want to update my first podcast do I just change the blog and the rest will happen or do I have to update my feed as well?

in fact I have put them all in a folder call podcasts on my server and changed the enclosure address to reflect that

I have then saved both blogs

and then just re saved the original feed as http://ukeylove.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

How long before iTunes picks up a change a few days as well?

Going to Ukeylove.comPodcasts in the Store shows your podcast with two episodes but I can't get them to play. Subscribing shows the two episodes and the first starts to download so I assume it will play. However the feed being used for this is at
    http://feeds2.feedburner.com/UkeylovecomPodcasts

The feed at the URL you quote does not appear to have any 'enclosure' tags which iTunes needs to find the episodes: these are present in the feed at the above URL, though both feeds have few or no line returns which makes them very difficult to read.

iTunes will not recognize a feed at a different URL unless you use the procedure detailed in this Apple Tech Note:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing

Changes to the feed which iTunes is using are normally recognized in 1-2 days. You need to make sure that you are updating the correct feed. I can't advise on how the feed relates to your blog(s) as individual programs/services are different.

seems to download both now you need to subscribe to ukeylove and then in itunes refresh then it finds the older episode which has now been placed in the new location on my website.

try this and see if you get the same thing now hopefully in 2 days or less if a new person subscribes they will get both episodes as intended.

    These podcasts are complicated!!

I guess you have to do it right from the beginning but if your new ( and bound to make mistakes) its a bit of a hassle.

So assuming that I have the right info and that it does work ... ( big assumption but hey) do you suggest I change the meta data on the original file or like you said is it all about the title.

what about podcast directory do need to do that as well

basically I want to get and find out about subscribers...

what is the best way to do this?

I'll start this properly once I know that the links are working properly for you and others

Cheers for your quick responce do you have many podcasts?

Subscribing worked fine. If you have changed the URLs of the episodes as opposed to the feed, then this would always be reflected immediately for new subscribers, but would take 1-2 days to percolate through to the Store page.

The information which iTunes displays is taken entirely from the feed, not the ID tags in the mp3/m4a file's metadata: only the embedded image is used for display to subscribers.

Not sure what you mean by that. The directory information in iTunes is drawn entirely from the feed.

basically I want to get and find out about subscribers...

iTunes does not provide information about subscribers or downloads. Feedburner may, but I don't know to what extent.

Cheers for your quick responce do you have many podcasts?

Just the one which is now completed but so far is still in the Store (though I expect it will be removed because of lack of updates eventually). It's not quite the same kind of music as yours.

What did you think of our music?

I didn't actually get that far - I didn't want to download an hour's program, and it didn't play in the Store page... but I have to say that any sort of pop music isn't my scene. Too old, probably.

    qnc Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
IHave a go I wouldn't call it pop... its people on their ukuleles as we do an open mic night music standard is quite high.

That brings up an interesting point should it be smaller its only 30 mins (approx)

But should it be about 5, 10 15 or 20mins

Would the size put people of subscribing?

is there any info on this?

I've never seen any analysis of this; obviously it's very dependent on the individual. However quite a lot of podcasts run an hour or so: and remember that if people are subscribing in iTunes the download takes place in the background so they aren't necessarily aware of it.
