If you applied the fix before upgrading to 9.01, the upgrade will have wiped it out and you'll have to apply it again. If you've applied it since 9.01, it'll be hard to help you without more information. Can you open a terminal and post the output of the following?
If you post those things, I should be able to help.
Anasas:MacOS Koji$ ls -lA
-rwxr-xr-x 1 Koji admin 568 Sep 25 17:24 iTunes
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root admin 28776688 Sep 21 23:39 iTunesX
Anasas:MacOS Koji$ cat iTunes
import sys, os, subprocess
launch = True
blocker = ""
apps = ["Spotify", "Songbird", "Mplayer OSX Extended", "Mplayer", "Alarm Clock Pro"]
ps = subprocess.Popen("/bin/ps -x", shell=True, stdout=subprocess.PIPE)
for line in ps.stdout.read().split("\n"):
for app in apps:
if app in line:
launch = False
blocker = app
if launch :
os.spawnvp(os.P_WAIT, '/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunesX', sys.argv)
print "Not launching iTunes while %s is running." % blocker
Two things you need to do:
1) You've added a syntax error to my modified script. On the line with "apps = " near the beginning, you need "\[" and "\]" around the list of apps, like:
apps = \["Spotify", "Songbird", "Mplayer OSX Extended", "Mplayer", "Alarm Clock Pro"\]
2) The owner and permissions of the script are wrong. In terminal, do:
sudo chown root iTunes
sudo chmod 0775 iTunes
These two steps and you should be set.

I have this problem with the Apple remote. I use Boxee and it worked great with the remote and now it is completely unusable with the remote. ITunes just keeps launching in the background. As to this being a bug or a feature I have to say for me it is a BUG for sure since it messes with the use of Logic which is a Apple program. If it only messed with non-apple programs then that may make me think otherwise (even though Apple's DVD program and Front Row seems to take commands without launching iTunes).
This may explain why the Apple Remote no longer works like it used to in Leopard. Apple may be releasing a completely redesigned Remote and Mouse soon.
Just adding another annoyed voice.
And my housemates voice.
And my buddy who works at the apple store's voice.
And here are the things we shouldn't need to do to sort it out, one more time...
Seriously, to all those who are posting now with questions about workarounds: read the previous posts - workarounds galore!
(simple, manually activated script):
and (involves downloading something from someone else):
or if you don't like scripts you can choose this one:
Or open Quicktime (no file), or open iTunes and leave it on the iTunes Store page...
Don't let that stop you from posting of course - we need the numbers to get some action on this.
