Hi this has been bugging me for a few days. I cannot archive anything because when I right-click on an asset and archive it, the Java app immediately hangs and I have to force-quit. At first, I thought it was my tape-based archive system playing up, so I made a brand new disk archive and tried doing it to that. This worked a couple of times, but then same deal. I'm totally stumped and assume its something to do with Snow Leopard (which I'm running on client and server). I've tried all the usual things but can't stop the hanging. Any help appreciated.

Mac OS X (10.6.1)

I'm having the same issue -- it kind of works a few times but then doesn't (more often not working than working) and it hangs with the archive device sticking out of the "Archive to" highlighted in blue. Force quit is the only way out. I don't think it relates to Snow Leopard as it's doing it on our Xserve running 10.5.7 and accessed via a PC Windows XP client. I'm now trying to figure out if there is something unique that I'm doing on the attempts that are successful which is making it work sometimes as it seems there's no rhyme or reason as to why it works sometimes and doesn't work other times.

What is the version of FC Svr you are running? And what are the details of the archive device? Finally, how big are the files you are archiving?

FCS 1.5, the archive device I normally use us a disk-fed LTO4 tape library, however, to eliminate that from the problem, I created another archive on a local disk volume. The problem exists on both. File sizes range from 2gb to 40gb.

To work around this problem, I created a subcription to fire the archive and that works fine, so I don't believe it is a problem with archiving as such, but rather perhaps the Java client? My experience is just as Jason suggests. Sometimes it works but mostly it hangs.

    Thanks

Try this out: (if you aren't already doing it this way) Double-click the asset first (to get info about the asset) and then use the gear-wheel pull-down icon on the left and use the "archive to" function from there -- so far it seems a lot more workable. I did several in a row that all went fine and in fact I haven't had one fail from this menu (so perhaps it is an issue with the Java UI on the line-list of assets screen).

Hi Jason, you're definitely onto something there. Going via the Info panel works 100% for me too. I'd say we've found a bug.

    Thanks mate,

Pretty sure this has been fixed in 1.5.1

I also encounter this on my current setup in 1.5.1, I archive files from 10gb - 100gb. I am thinking that this is a bug because whether I force quit the UI and start it again, the archive is in progress, sometimes I need to archive it again.
