Since upgrading Leopard to Snow Leopard I can no longer use terminal. When i run Terminal, I immediately get [Process Completed] and can't do anything else.

However, I noticed if i move the login file from /usr/bin/ to the desktop and then delete the login file, I can then get into the shell and have limited use of the Terminal app but this is in no way a solution IMHO.

I've tried deleted com.apple.terminal.plist without any success.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? A co-worker is having the same exact problem after upgrading to Leopard, so it's not a random problem.

Thanks!

have you made any local shell configuration files like ~/.bash_profile? could be a problem with one of them. what's your login shell? also, make a new user account. does the same thing happen there?

I created a new user and it happened with that account as well.. I haven't changed any shell config files.

I also tried repairing permissions without any luck..

I'm using /usr/bin/login as my default login shell.. I also tried changing to /bin/bash with the same thing.

    Any other ideas?

/usr/bin/login is not a shell. I'm guessing your login shell is bash. that's what the default is on all newly created accounts. you can check it in advanced account preferences. go to system preferences->accounts. unlock the lock, control-click on your account and select 'advanced options". it will list your login shell among other things. what is it? but in any case, if this happens on anew account too, this is a system-wide problem. I don't know how to fix something like that short of a reinstall.

Yes, I'm sorry, I am using the default shell, bash..

I'd hate to reinstall the OS but if that's the only way, I guess that's what i'll have to do..

Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks!
