Q: CANON LBP 2900

I have just bought a canon laser jet printer as above and cannot make it work on my imac. The name of the printer doesn't come up on the list they provide and when i try to print it says 33% complete and then stops without printing anything. Anyone know what to do?

Just to let everyone know - *Snow Leopard* breaks this work-around for printing on the *Canon LBP 2900.*

The good news is that you simply have to download and install Dexter_HD 's special CAPT folder again, then download and re-install the latest driver from Canon's website.

Basically following the instructions again and you will have the printer working with Snow Leopard.

    Amro,
thanks for the heads up, about to install SL and fiqured I'd have problems as I did some time ago with Leopard ~ solved by Dexters workaround ~ now I can proceed unworried.
    thanks

Has anyone managed to get this printer to work over a Windows network printer server? The printer with the driver works fine when directly connected via USB but doesn't work at all when it's attached to a Windows XP workstation with the latest drivers, firewall disabled, printer sharing enabled etc.

    Hi there.
While I followed the required steps my Mac could see the printer. But now, after updating to Snow Leopard, I just can't install printer. I tried Dexter's CAPT folder again... I did all the steps as it was written. While I want to print i can see the printer but I can not choose the software for it... seems that installing Canon latest driver do not help much. I can find the installed items... Where are they?
Moreover, Dexter's CAPT folder is not available for downloading anymore.
Thus, can you upload the folder again and describe the solution to Snow Leopard one more time ?

I have tried installing the CAPT alot of times but the CAPT folder just doesn't get installed... i was on 10.5 before and CAPT folder was not there after installing it. However following Dexter's instruction I got it working. However, after upgrading to 10.6, although i followed the same procedure, it doesn't work... could any1 help?

Hello mykochan, and a warm welcome to the forums!

I think you'd have better luck stating a New Topic over on 10.6 to get he most helpers in on it.

It's quite acceptable, even preferable to start a new topic of your own, it will get more individualized attention, and many more helpers!

It can be hard to sometimes find where to start a New Topic, so here's the link...

    Hi there!

I know that some peoples still can't get it to work in Snow Leopard (10.6 and 10.6.1).

So let's try to collect everything you need in this post:

    0. Turn off printer.

    1. Download an CAPT Driver: http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0028785.asp

    2. Download this patch http://www.elverils.com/downloads/LBP2900.gz

    3. Install CAPT and reboot

    4. Open LBP2900.gz and copy file in /Library » Printers » Canon » CAPT » Profile » Device

    5. Turn on printer. And open Printing&Fax prefpane. Click on [+] to add new printer.

    6. Select Canon LBP2900. If at this step in "Print Using" field is "CAPT Printer" than you're done. Print & enjoy. If not — go to step 7 or 8.

    7. Something wrong, and now you have to try to reset printing system. You will lose already installed printers but still it's good .

7.1. Turn off printer. Close "Add Printer" window and in "Print & Fax" window press alt+right click on "Printers" list. You'll se menu with only one item "Reset printing system". Cross your fingers and click it.

    7.2. Go to step 5.

    8. If you done this steps, but printer still not installed — you can replace step 4 by downloading full CAPT directory and copy in Dexter_HD said before in this topic. After this you have to reset printing system as well.

Thanks and unlimited printing for you .

i dont´t know what to do, even I downloaded the CAPT print driver, I downloaded file from dexter´s location. But still, I cannot see canon printer (or anything else actually) when I come to library--printers. Am I doing smth wrong or?! I´m not that good at computers so it´s possible...

Nikhii you tell me to run the utilities installed, but how? Cause I install the Capt print driver, then it asks me to restart the computer, and then where do I find the utilities u talk about???? I´m feeling like giving up. But it´s so strange that others have succeed and not me?!

I don't know this could help or not, but It happened with me before. May be you're looking at the wrong library folder.
Please make sure that you go to /Library/Printers/Canon (You can go to this folder by click on Macintosh HD on desktop). If you go to /Users/YourUserName/Library/ you will never find canon folder in it.
Make sure that you go to the right library folder and follow dexter_HD method, It's really work for me.
