Hi guys.

Basically this is the problem I have.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

I get no video display even though I hear the chime, hard drive spinning, sound, etc.

I was wondering what the estimated repair time was for this problem. I am working on job stuff right now so I need it fixed ASAP from my local Apple Store. Anyone else have experience or dealt with this issue and fix? Thanks.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), No display, NVIDIA 8600M GT defect

Depends entirely on how busy the Apple Store is, if they have the parts in stock, etc. Your best bet is to call them and inquire.

I have a MBP 15.4" with the same problem.

I took my computer to repair and so far it's been 10 days. They said me that like in another 4 days it will be done...

The cause of that delay? They say they don't have the parts to replace and are waiting for them.

I hope you have better luck!

I brought mine in Tuesday May 12 and was quoted 7-10 business days. Three days later I got the call that my computer was ready. Kudos Apple!

The store told me 10 days in store repair, so I opted for mail in repair because it would be "faster". Now it is on its fourth day at the remote repair center while they order a part. No new ETA given. How can they not have replacement logic boards on hand for this known defect with these MBP's? I see where this was a fairly fast repair for many, but for me it looks like it may take over a week if not longer. I am out my freelance income while I wait. Very disappointing.

I would like to post my resolution to this issue. After taking the laptop to the Apple store and getting rejected for the free Nvidia repair, I called Apple support directly, and they allowed me to send in my Macbook Pro for repair.

It arrived back to me in three days(!) all fixed, no charge.

Hey Apple, THANK YOU! (Please help the others having this issue)

If you have AppleCare suggest that you call them. You may be entitled to a loaner while your computer is being repaired if the repairs will take a few days/weeks.

they qouted me 7-10 days... called everyday after the 4th to "rush" things. It ended taking 7 days. According to them it is their busy time because of back-to-school promos so it would normally take 3-5 days.

Just to update my situation. It took 7 days to get the Macbook back for the Nvidia repair. I was told that they had to order the replacement logic board as they had run out. This is my third repair of a defect in this laptop. I had a defective Superdrive when I first got it, defective battery and Nvidia chip.

I will say that Apple's employees are pleasant to deal with and my only complaint support wise was with what I feel was a slightly long repair time. Obviously with three defects in this laptop, I have to hope I am in the clear from here on out, but my confidence in this machine is a bit shaken.

I have this problem on a 17" MBP. We do not have (yet) Apple stores in France, so I brought the laptop for repair to an authorized Apple service provider; this was more than two weeks ago. Last week I was told that NVIDIA was setting up a production unit for this issue (confirmation, anyone?). Today, I was told that the AASP received a replacement motherboard, but it was defective. They have ordered another one from Apple.
This is my work machine I am talking about.

I have one of the crop of MacBook Pro's where the nVidia card failed. The problem came on rather quickly, and took it in to get checked out. It was confirmed that my issues are related to the nVidia problem Apple is currently dealing with. Thankfully, it will be covered under Apple’s repair program dealing with this issue.

I got a call this afternoon from the repair guys telling me it would be 30 days before they get the part!! Really? 30 days? Cmon Apple. Some of us creative types buy & use Mac so they can make a living with them.

I had to pull out my old Fujitsu XP this morning to complete a rush job. Good thing I kept it and despite being over 5 years old, it worked flawlessly albeit a bit slower than what I'm used to.

Needless to say I'm a little disappointed. I'm appreciative that Apple is replacing the part free-of-charge, but so far their service has been a let down. I hope my story will be the exception to what others have been experiencing so far.

    Apple comes through...

Not sure if it was rattling the cage that did it, or luck of the draw, but I got my MacBook Pro back this morning. I was more than happy to get it back and get working again.

Apple, you're once again on my good side Thank you.

This morning I got back my MBP after two motherboard replacements and replacement of the NVIDIA chipset. The graphics are OK, but the ethernet card is down (I have checked all possible configurations, and none of them works, while everything is OK with the other machine). I am going to bring back the MBP to the reseller and they are going to ask for a new motherboard. I hope this one will be OK.

I repeat, I am talking about my work machine. I am mad at Apple for sending defective motherboards twice in row.

It has been THREE weeks and the machine is under Applecare warranty. Needless to say, my consumer satisfaction, and more important, confidence in Apple is wayyyy down.

Got the MBP on Monday. Still had not network at home (while other machines has local and internet access). The difference is that the person that received the new motherboard had checked the network connectivity at the shop and it worked nice. So we had a discussion on phone and he suggested I reset the PRAM (voodoo thing, IMHO). This got my network my connectivity and everything OK (AFAIK).
The side effects is that I had to re-register the MBP for my iTunes account, and my Time machine backup was unusable; spotlight DB had also to be re-built, though the drives were the same.

I have checked the serial number in the system info and it has not changed.
