Dec 8, 2009 5:02 PM in response to gthull644by luvlabs,Go into System Preferences > Network and make sure that 1) Ethernet is the first network checked; 2) Click on the Advanced button and make sure network settings are correct. Click on the the Ethernet tab and make sure it is set to automatic. -
Dec 9, 2009 3:56 PM in response to luvlabsby gthull644,Everything seems OK. I have made various changes to try to resolve: created a new ethernet location, created a new location, used a manual IPV4 setup, turned IPV6 off. Nothing works.
I do get a connection eventually but I'm getting p**d off. -
Dec 10, 2009 5:02 PM in response to gthull644by luvlabs,You might want to lug it into the local Apple store and have a Genius take a look at it. You could have a bad network card. -
Dec 10, 2009 5:35 PM in response to luvlabsby Pinthea,Had the same problem on my first i5. Only a reboot would fix it. Of course when I went to the Genius bar, after waiting 2 days for the appointment, it worked fine and they thought I was being a complainer or picky or something -- the various times the Genius tried to put the i5 to sleep and wake it, the wired ethernet worked perfectly. But I pressed and insisted on a return/refund which I managed to get without the restocking fee. They did it begrudgingly, I assure you... -
Dec 11, 2009 6:43 AM in response to Pintheaby mikeadams,I'm having the same problems on a new 27". Usually after coming out of sleep or being powered on. Today when moving to a new router, it took hours to get a connection, to the point where I was starting to think the new router was faulty. Have tested the cables, ports etc, so I think there's either a bug or the network card is faulty. -
Dec 13, 2009 1:03 PM in response to mikeadamsby beaumoj,I have the same problem with my new i7. My router, a time capsule, is not the problem since my other iMac (a late-2006) has no such issues, nor does my macbook. It doesn't always happen, but often enough to be a real pain - all network connectivity is gone. The only workaround I've found is to turn ipv4 off in System Preferences -> Network and then turn it back on again. I am only using Ethernet. Anyone else having this problem? -
Dec 13, 2009 1:46 PM in response to gthull644by gthull644,Since changing the IP address of the router (the Gateway IP) my problem has gone away (touch wood). I doubt if this is a cure for anyone else but so far all is well. -
Dec 14, 2009 11:12 AM in response to gthull644by Ted Peters,Same problem here with my 27" i7. After waking from sleep, Ethernet connection is lost about one out of five times. Disconnecting the Ethernet cable and re-connecting it fixes it. Ethernet is connected to Gigabit Airport basestation, which is connected to cable modem. Extremely annoying! -
Dec 17, 2009 11:41 AM in response to gthull644by 8Adam8,Same problem here. I think it's a problem with Snow Leopard. Every single time my computer wakes from sleep it takes anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for the computer to connect to the internet. I seriously doubt it's a router problem. I never had this problem with earlier versions of SN/Panther or my equipment. Hopefully Apple is listening and hopefully there is a software patch for the problem! -
Dec 17, 2009 11:44 AM in response to gthull644by 8Adam8,Notice how everybody on this thread is using 10.6.2?! -
Dec 17, 2009 4:52 PM in response to 8Adam8by luvlabs,I've never seen this problem with either one of my SN iMacs and my Belkin N+ router. As soon as they wake up, they are connected. -
Dec 17, 2009 11:20 PM in response to gthull644by 8Adam8,I don't know then. It just seems really bizarre. -
Dec 17, 2009 11:26 PM in response to 8Adam8by beaumoj,I have 2 iMacs, a late-2006 17" and a new core i7 27" - both running 10.6.2. The 17" one does not have this problem, only the 27" and, as someone earlier said, only about 1 time in 5. Which models are other people having this problem with? -
Dec 18, 2009 10:11 AM in response to beaumojby Ted Peters,I am having this problem with a new 27" core i7 iMac.
I am not having the problem with a 24" Core 2 Duo iMac from 2008.
Both are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
