I have a 17" MBP 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. In the last week or two, I have had the laptop shut down, bang, no warning, gone, while on battery. The battery is around 40% charged when this happens.

Under Power in About this Mac I have

Model Information:
Manufacturer: SMP
Device name: ASMB014
Pack Lot Code: 0002
PCB Lot Code: 0000
Firmware Version: 102a
Hardware Revision: 0500
Cell Revision: 0102
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 2522
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 6098
Health Information:
Cycle count: 162
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 277
Voltage (mV): 10526

I'm thinking I have a battery problem, despite Condition Normal.

Does anyone have any similar experience or any ideas? Thanks. I'm plugged in and running fine now.

MacBook Pro 17 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

I had it crash a few minutes ago. I tried the SSC reset thing mentioned in another thread. I can't tell that anything happened. Sitting at 41% and typing fast.

Okay, after some finagling I got it to go past 40% down into the red zone. But now Profiler says there is a problem with the battery.

My wife's MBP battery lasted about the same length of time. After all of the comments I've found in other sections here, it's clear that Apple did not do a very good job with the battery. I'll order a new one.
