When I connect iPod to my work computer, iTunes doesn't open. If it's already opened and I connect it, it says it's connected, but doesn't show in iTunes and iTunes freezes.

I use the same iPod on my home computer and never have any problems.

I've completely reinstalled iTunes - get same problem. If I reboot the computer after having this problem, Windows starts to shut down, then freezes on a blank screen and I have to turn it off manually. Often it says 'iTunes not responding / Closing iTunes - please wait' even though iTunes never properly opened in the first place. Rebooting the computer and trying again doesn't help. BUT, if I keep rebooting and trying again, it eventually sometimes works.

The frustrating thing is that sometimes it works fine for days and then suddenly it stops working even though I haven't changed any settings. Then the next day it will work fine again. You'd think it would either work or it wouldn't.

I doubt there's a magical quick fix for this, but thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas..?? Very frustrating and wastes a lot of my time endlessly rebooting!!

Hmmmm. What security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware) do you have on the work PC? Is it set to scan attached drives?

What operating system is on the work PC? XP, Vista or 7?

Me too. If iTunes is open, it freezes when trying to connect Nano 4th gen. Even if I simply want to use iTunes without usb connection to Nano it freezes.
Any and all suggestions that haven't been posted already ('cause I've tried everything) is appreciated.

    Okay...I'm a knucklehead!
Bonjour services were being blocked by my ZoneAlarm firewall. I gave full access to internet to Bonjour and everything is working great.

I found the SOLUTION, for me at least. I hope this helps others because I was beginning to lose hope.

Open ZoneAlarm>program control>locate Bonjour>right click and select green check mark to allow access...done.
Bada boom, bada bing. Back in bi'ness.
