i'm having a problem with my mouse too.
A week ago, while i was surfing with my mouse.. the cursor just stopped moving.
The click buttons still work and the scrolling up and down is still ok.. so my mouse is technically still paired (right ?) but the cursor just won't move. I've moved my mouse onto a blank piece of white paper.. still no help. I've also changed batteries and re-paired my mouse a few times.. didn't work.
    Help!

Geoy, in this case it could be an hardware problem. The swipe problem is slightly different, because the scroll keeps working, and this means that the sensor is perfectly able to detect fingers.

By the way, I think that "a blank piece of white paper" is not a good choice for checking your mouse: if the pattern of the paper is too "flat", the optical sensor inside the mouse is not able to detect movements. The surface of a wooden desk could be more appropriate. If you still cannot move the mouse, then you may want to call Apple and ask them.

Encountered this issue twice (only swipe stops working, other mouse functions continue to work fine). I can confirm that logging-in and out resolves the issue. This seems to be the easiest workaround.

    Here same problem.

No swipe with 2 fingers on Magic Mouse and no swipe with 3 fingers on TrackPad.

Log out and in solve, but it's too annoying!

Agreed. Logging out and in every time I want to go back a page is a tad irritating.

Wonder what background service is responsible for the 'swipe' function of the trackpad and mouse? Perhaps this service can be stopped and relaunched to see if it solves the problem?

Also - is it possible to unmark this question as solved? It isn't solved yet!

First question do I have to upgrade to os x 10.6 for all the magic mouse functions to work? I just paired the magic mouse yesterday and all the functions worked except...
the 360º scroll...Is there a fix for this? Thank you all so much for your help!

That's not really a question for this thread, but here are the full system requirements:

    * Mac computer with Bluetooth wireless technology
    * Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
    * Existing keyboard and mouse for setup
    * Two AA batteries (included)

This is taken from the Magic Mouse page: http://www.apple.com/magicmouse/

    Sorry....any ideas why I can't use the 360 swipe?

Please create a new thread for your question. This thread is for those who are experiencing problems with the two-finger swiping- please help to keep things on-topic. Thank you

A tool called 'MagicPrefs' has been launched which provides support for additional gestures and three/four finger clicks. Link: http://www.tuaw.com/2009/12/31/magicprefs-is-a-must-download-for-magic-mouse-own ers/

I'm going to give this a try to see if, as an aside, it solves the two-finger swipe issue, and will report back.

I'm also using MagicPrefs (which is a great tool by the way) but it doesn't solves this issue.

I, too, same issue... installed magic mouse last week along with snow leopard upgrade to iMac. Worked beautifully for a week, then this morning, nothing. But, it returned after I logged out, then bak in. So, go figure? Will update again if this fails. We still need a definitive root cause though...

Same issue for me on my brand new iMac. MagicPrefs, while cool, did not help. However, logging out and back in did!

I hope this doesn't start happening a lot.

Just received the new mouse for a xmas present and I am having no problems with it.
In my opinion Apple did an awesome job designing this new mouse.
    HUGE improvement over past mice.

I to had the same problem. Though I logged into another account that was already set up on my computer. It worked on that account but when I logged back in to mine the 2 finger gesture still did not work. The solution is odd and difficult to find but through the help of Apple Care it was found in some obsecure discussion thread.

Click your Macintosh HD, then under places select your user name. Look for the file named Library, click on Library then click on preferences and then you are looking for 2 extensions

    1) com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
    2) com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist

Move both of these to your trash folders. That is it and your 2 finger swipe shall return.
