Jan 4, 2010 3:31 AM in response to Gullyby jacks_away,My mac isn't even 2 years old and I've had to replace 2 chargers and now it looks like the battery died - same as all the other stories here. It was working fine until I didn't use it for 1 week now it won't charge or work without being plugged into the wall. Sick of crappy apple hardware.

Jan 6, 2010 7:41 AM in response to grover99by eddy kestemont,As I mentioned on an other thread, same problem. Computer left for one week asleep. Battery which was working for 2-3 hours will not charge anymore. Cycle count is high but this sudden behavior is certainly not normal.
Under Leopard Snow 10.6.2, these are the data

Battery not in charge; Replace battery...
Owing to the number of cycles, that's the way I will go.
Anyway I find it quite strange. -
Jan 6, 2010 4:18 PM in response to Gullyby lightwing,Hi all,
Just recently, I had the same problem as you all have. I left my Macbook unused for two weeks, and couldn't turn it on unless plugged to the wall. I was very frustrated because I bought it from my mother's friend only 2 months ago, and it was my first mac. So I took an appointment at the Genius Bar right away.
I went to the Apple store today, and the Genius said the battery is defective and that the Macbook has a prolonged warranty. She replaced the battery with a new one -- with no charges. Thank goodness.
The Macbook I own is the Black Macbook from early '08.
I hope you will be able to get yours replaced too. Good luck. -
Jan 7, 2010 4:47 PM in response to eddy kestemontby Samerson,I have exactly the same battery issue as everyone mentions in that thread.
My battery stopped working after a few weeks asleep mode. It could last at least 3h just before that problem and it was pretty new as Apple already exchanged it in september 2008 as part of the replacement program.
I use my macbook as a 2nd machine of my iMac, so not often, that's why the battery had only 67 cycles since september 2008 !
It seems all the defective batteries are either identied as ASMB013 or ASMB016. 2 bad series ???
Went to the Apple Store in Le Louvre today : my laptop (august 2006) is out of warranty and the replaced battery provided by Apple (september 2008) is considered as a "repair part", so warranty is only valid for 3 months (expired december 2008) ... The guy at the Genius Bar proposed me 2 options :
- get a new one from the bar at 92 euros, but warranty limited to 3 months
- get a new one from the store at 139 euros, with a 1 one warranty
I didn't buy any as I'm pretty convinced my battery is part of a defective serie and Apple should extend their replacement program
/Sam

Jan 13, 2010 11:53 AM in response to jacks_awayby Aislante,Same problem here.
Left my MacBook unused for 2 weeks, came back and now it's "not charging". Tried several fixes from support, none brought any improvement.
Bought new, I've had it 1 year 2 months max. Cicle count 222.

Thanks for posting, you've given me hope. This battery, and overall behavior (no response from apple) is plain wrong.
I hope apple gets it right. I like the products but this would easily be enough to buy non-mac next time.
I'll try my luck at an "authorized service center" (Louvre's a bit far).
PS: why is this tread displayed as "This question is answered."? Looks like many still have issues. Ok, maybe for original poster is ok? -
Jan 25, 2010 5:42 AM in response to shardlojikby shardlojik,A belated follow-up to my post. Took the MacBook to the Apple Store (Regent St, London) and talked to a Genius. I explained the problem, he booted from a handy diag USB and said the battery was (I think) in deep sleep mode... ie dead. The only solution would be to buy a new battery at around £100.
I tried to argue the point that perfectly good batteries should not just commit suicide after a week, but he countered with the fact that the user manual says that if you are going to "store your MacBook for an extended amount of time" then you should remove the battery. To be honest, I don't call a week an "extended amount of time"!
On a parting note, I did ask if the battery would have been replaced if I'd had Apple Care and he said no... -
Jan 26, 2010 8:08 AM in response to Ramogensby maitane,Me too, I am really disapointed because is not normal that so many people have the same problem!!!!!! also my mackbook is out of support (1 year and ONE MONTH) and they told me the normal life is 300 cycles!!! what?!! and my battery is 200. It worked normally before having it sleeping for one night!!
It is not normal I want to make a complain but HOw???' -
Jan 28, 2010 12:58 PM in response to Ramogensby maitane,I do think this is a BUG or a manufacturing defect for sure. I have the same problem!! is not fair -

Like almost everyone else, my battery has suddenly given out on me. I went on vacation for two weeks and did not take my beloved macbook with me. Now my battery display says "battery is not charging" and I have to have my macbook plugged in for it to work. I have tried using different outlets around the house, and different magsafe adapters (with and without the extender), but it doesn't help. I have an appointment tomorrow at the Genius Bar, I hope they will replace the battery. It is quite obvious that everyone is having the same problem with the same device numbers. -

Feb 8, 2010 12:33 PM in response to Gullyby Glove69,its a hardware issue. when you take the battery out its the gold pins that connect to the mainboard. the part is $12.50 but apple wont sell you the part they charge you 85.00 for 30 min of labor. this is how they rape you for your money. -
Feb 14, 2010 6:09 PM in response to Ramogensby negoleo,hi ! does anyone know something about these " replace battery ".
Its safe ? if it works, why should i buy another apple battery if they just last for an year ?
does anyone knows if its a safe battery ?
thanks

Feb 17, 2010 2:09 PM in response to negoleoby Alexzzz,Seems like every other MacBook has battery problems, I have the same problem, a two year old MacBook that has a battery that doesn't charge. Seems like Apple put more emphasis on design than engineering products that work for more than two years. -
Feb 20, 2010 11:58 AM in response to Gullyby SpAM_CAN,I actually don't think many of these are the fault of the battery.
I have almost identical stats, and yet I still won't charge after swapping the MagSafe charger and the battery itself (thank god for BTEC Media MacBooks :P)
The battery worked fine in another MacBook with both my charger and another charger, and the charger worked in another MacBook with both my battery and another battery. I am certain it is the charging circuit that is faulty.

Don't be fooled by the cycle count, I was allowed to swap the batteries over for a while.
