Q: Apple Loop creation question

Hi all,

I want to convert audio loops from CDs into green Apple Loops. Here are the steps I'm taking:

1. Media>Browser:Import the audio file from the CD to the arrange window. This is typically 1 long file with a handful of individual loops at various tempos (I understand that this is important as I don't want to have a problem with the project tempo not matching the loop tempo later).
2. Arrange>Audio>Strip Silence: Converts the long file into the individual loops
3. Arrange>Audio>Convert Regions To New Audio Files.

From here, I've tried every option I've found in the manuals or the web.

I've saved full length CD files (broken down into loops) then arrange>audio>open in apple loops utility. From there they are saved and show up in the Assets Drawer, but they don't show up in the apple loop browser. I've read that I need to open a finder window and drag them into the loops browser window. But, these files are just .aif format and don't look any different in the finder than any other .aif file. Apple loops seem to have a ".caf" file extension. When I drag the file over the arrange window I get the green "+" cursor, indicating I can drop the file, but once I get over the the media>browser section the "+" goes away.

If instead, after step 3 I opt for arrange>region>Add to Apple Loop Library, I get a dialog box, but the one "shot vs. looping" option is grayed out, there's no control over the transients and while the loops do show up then in the loop browser, they have no tempo information & don't adjust to the project tempos.

Again, I want to turn audio regions into green Apple Loops that can be played back from an EXS24 and edited like any other MIDI file. Can someone please fill me in from step 3 above?

Thanks a ton! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

After another day of digging in to this, is it safe to say that an audio loop can only become a "blue" apple loop but midi performances can become blue or green? I'm starting to think that's the case. I was hoping there was a "recycle" like function here, but I'm guessing not at this point. Does that sound right to anyone?

    Thanks!

I was having a similar problem. I had taken some aif files and converted them successfully into blue apple loops that responded to my songs tempos. they showed up in the loop browser.

However the next day when I tried to convert more audio file, I couldn't repeat the procedure that I did the day before. I'm baffled as to what I did right and now am doing wrong. I even tried opening the Apple Loop utility directly from the Library folder. Its goes through the process of creating the loops, I get to adjust transients and all, but it does not show up in the loops menus when I look for it.

Refer to Logic manual page 848 where it is well explained.

I just made a loop from an audio file i imported. I selected the region then I went to the Audio pulldown menu and chose OPEN IN APPLE LOOPS UTILITY and it made the region into any apple blue loop which responded to my time changes.
