If you "Sync" the content to the appleTV (Transferring the movies/tv shows) like you do with your iPod, your tight it will work just fine. But you can imagine with i big movie library, you will fill up the max 160 Gig available on the AppleTV really quick!
Th other option is to STREAM the content from an server, a computer with iTunes running with an external HD connected to it.
More of, I own 2 AppleTV, one in the living and one in our bedroom. I want the same content to be available on both so the streaming/server solution is what works best for me.
Thanks for the reply. I want to set up some thing like yours. It looks like I too need the same. Let me tell you what I have.
Mac mini with 750GB iomega ext hard drive. I have more that 300GB of music, video and photos in it.
Another silly question for my learning. If I buy an Apple TV how do I set up itunes server. Do I have to keep the mini on all the time with itunes running. Please take me through.
Currently, My main computer is used for my media server as well.
Setting up iTunes is easy (its an apple product!) you turn on iTunes, plugin your AppleTV in power and if wifi you setup you wifi connection in the AppleTV menu and it will appear in you iTunes (much like your iPod do) and that is where you will set you Sync/Stream options...
You can have a look in the AppleTV forum, lots of help and ideas there...
Don't be too afraid with people that have connection issues, Yes it could happen I had those issue, but if you have a strong wifi network or better, if your are cabled, nothing to worry about...
